Bozeman Trail Days

Living History Camp

Interpreted exhibits showing temporary living quarters, equipment and life style of the military and civilian people who occupied Fort Phil Kearny and traveled the Bozeman Trail.

Infantry, Cavalry, Artillery, Officer, Enlisted Men, Laundress, Blacksmith, Sutler, Whiskey Trader, Doctor, to list a few.

Indian Camp

Step into another culture as Michael “Bad Hand” Terry demonstrates and
interprets the life style of the mid 19th century Native Americans living on
the northern plains. Shelter, clothing, food and many other aspects of life
Are realistically portrayed on this tour.

*Events Leading Up To and Following the Closing of Fort Phil Kearny*

*The Transition of Cavalry Equipment from 1866-1876*
*Guns of the Bozeman Trail*
 

Other Activities

Learn the location of the many buildings and the unique stories of their occupants during the Guided Walking Tour of the Fort.

Get a peak of military life as artillery, cavalry and infantry drill on the parade grounds.

Observe some of the food and methods of preparing it as occupants of the camp cook and eat their meals.

Visit the Fort Phil Kearny/Bozeman Trail Museum and Book Store located next to the fort

     Fort Phil Kearny is located between Sheridan and Buffalo.  It can be reached by taking exit 44 of Interstate 90 and following the brown and white historic directional signing.  The site is open 8 to 6 Daily May 15 – Sept 30. or 12 to 4, Wednesday – Sunday October 1 to May 14.  We can be reached at rwilso@state.wy.us or sreisc@state.wy.us, our web page is http://www.philkearny.vcn.com/, and our address is 528 Wagon Box Road, Banner, WY  82832  Phone is (307)684-7629 or fax is 7967.
